Blink!

This TIME around, I've decided to try something different and geek out a little. For those of you who don't know, I've been a big fan of Dr. Who for some time now. And while a lot of people still can't accept the fact that David Tennant has been the best Doctor to date ::wink wink::, that's really not what I want to talk about today. I actually want to talk about what has been, and still is, one of my most favorite episodes—BLINK.

The reason I like this episode so much is because, 1) It features the introduction of a new very scary and exciting monster—the Weeping Angels! And 2) It’s also because the way it was filmed. Since the very beginning, it feels more like you're watching a horror movie rather than a sci-fi show. It does not feel like any other Dr. Who episode at all. In fact, there were a couple of times there when I had to double check the TV to make sure I hadn't changed the channel!

What's so scary about these monsters? Well at first they look like concrete statues of angels with their hands in front of their face, as if they were weeping. As long as somebody is looking at them they can't move. However, if you blink, they move so fast that they can actually cover quite a distance and get to you in just a few blinks.

If they manage to touch you, they will send you back in time for you to live out the rest of your days, which allows them to feed off the energy of your unlived years.

Ever since that episode I've always wondered if I could turn a "normal" looking angel figurine, into an actual custom Weeping Angel. And so the hunt began! A few years and many unqualifying figurines later, I think I finally found two that made great candidates.

I don't even know what brand they are or anything, but I just knew that if I could turn these two cute little kissing angels into scary monsters, I would fulfill this challenge! So after cleaning and priming them, they were ready!

And so the transformation ensued, or should I say regeneration? Haha! After several hours of planning and painting, they are ready for their debut! What do you think? Would you dare taking them on in a staring contest?

If so, just remember what the Dr. says, “Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, don't look away, and DON'T blink.”

Here are a few more shots and see if you are still feeling brave:

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Are you one of those who is in denial about the 10th Doctor being the best one? Who’s your favorite Dr. Who monster? I do ask that if you’re done watching the new Dr. Who w/Jodie Whittaker, please don’t say much yet. I’m still watching it so “No Spoilers!”. =)

As always, thank you for stopping by. Your time is precious and I appreciate you spending it here. If you haven’t already, make sure you don’t miss any new posts by signing up below. Take care of yourselves and see you back here in two weeks!
