“Bonita la paz, bonita la vida, Bonito volver a nacer cada día.”

Jarabe de Palo. “Bonito”

Hello to all my Friends. Today I would like share with you a small story about an artist who unfortunately, anbandons us today (June 9th, 2020). This story isn’t about his life, rather about the effect his music has had on mine, or better yet, on ours—my wife’s and mine.

It’s about the charismatic Spanish song writer and lead singer for “Jarabe de Palo”, Pau Donés. To be honest with you, I had never heard of him until I met my wife. Thanks to her, my knowledge and appreciation for music was expanded, and of course it included “Jarabe de Palo”.

The first song of his that I heard was La Flaca, and from that point on, I began to listen to as much of their music as I could find. It was during that search that I found none other than Bonito. Bonito, in truth, is more than just a simple song—it is a hymn to Life! There are days in which I like to play that song and sing it on my way to work—it always lifts my spirit.

A few years later, I found myself in Houston thanks to my girlfriend—she wasn’t my wife yet, haha! On April of 2017, she gave me a couple of tickets to go see “Jarabe de Palo” in concert, but there was a condition attached to them, I had to take her with me, hehe!

As you can imagine, I really didn’t have a choice… =)

As you can see, the stage was quite small, which meant that we could really enjoy the concert better than in any other place. It was a very unique and intimate event, almost as if it was meant just for the two of us…I will never forget it. To this day, it has been the best concert I’ve been to—and I’ve been to several! Nowadays there are very few artists who can still write from the heart. Many of his lyrics are actually fairly simple, but very well written and in a way that their message stay with you for an entire lifetime.

This has been his gift to me. Thank you Pau for having dedicated your life to an art which very few are able to master, yet you were able to transcend to a level that has made you unforgettable.

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE…

As always, thank you for stopping by. Your time is precious and I appreciate you spending it here. If you haven’t already, make sure you don’t miss any new posts by signing up below. Take care of yourselves and see you back here in two weeks!
