“Painting is easy when you don’t know how, but very difficult when you do.”

Edgar Degas

Today I’d like to take you on a small and quick, vicarious trip to Japan. Why do I say vicarious? Well because as much as I would love to say I acquired these lovely Leaf Vein Panting souvenirs myself, I didn’t. They were a gift from my aunt and uncle who enjoy traveling the world—Lucky!!

Last year, they embarked on a cruise which made a stop in Japan. Here they came upon a group of very charismatic and talented painters. As it turns out, Leaf Painting has actually been around for over a thousand years!

The leaf itself is from a Banyan Tree, and the process each leaf goes through is quite arduous and complicated…But the end result is a small leaf canvas ready to be given life once more!

Painting over such a fragile and delicate surface takes quite a bit of skill, patience, and an almost surgeon-like pulse so as not to make any mistakes!

At first, they didn’t actually have a background, so that was just a small addition I felt was needed to get them to really pop. Have you seen or maybe even own some of these beautiful paintings? I’d love to hear about it!

As always, thank you for stopping by. Your time is precious and I appreciate you spending it here. If you haven’t already, make sure you don’t miss any new posts by signing up below. Take care of yourselves and see you back here in two weeks!
